Presenting the 2018 Woburn’s Awesome Teachers!

The Woburn Community Educational Foundation is pleased to present the impressive list of Woburn Educators honored this year with a Woburn’s Awesome Teacher Tribute.  In total, 188 tributes were received for 151 educators, raising $4325 to support the Educator Grants Program.

We wish to thank the Woburn community for their generous support of this important program, which not only raises important funds for the Woburn Public Schools, but also reminds our awesome teachers that their efforts are noticed and appreciated by their colleagues, community, students and families, both past and present.

The mission of the Woburn Community Educational Foundation is to increase private investment and community involvement in the Woburn Public Schools.  Our goal is to support educational programs and initiatives that empower teacher creativity and drive innovation in the classroom beyond that which is possible with public dollars.  We are a volunteer organization which works to bring new resources to our schools.

WCEF Updates Community on 2018 Accomplishments and Announces Woburn Hall of Fame

cialis kaufen check here Each year the WCEF is invited to attend a meeting of the Woburn School Committee to provide an update on the past year’s activities and news of future projects.  We are proud to this report with the Woburn community.

Educator Grants:  This year, through the generosity of our community, for the first time we were able to fund 100% of the grant requests received through our Educator Grant Program.  In total, more than $23,000 has been gifted to the schools to support 27 new and innovative projects; WCEF funds are now at work supporting Woburn educators at every school in the district.

In just four years, the Woburn Community Educational Foundation has raised funds in excess of $175,000 and invested these resources back into our schools.  Our Educator Grants Program has funded 75 new school based projects that could not be funded by the regular school budget.  Winning Home, a local foundation formed to support programs for Woburn children, has invested a total of $20,000 specifically to support new initiatives for our most at-risk students.  In year 2 of our Cummings Foundation “100k for 100” grant, almost 500 children in grades K-5 at every elementary school in the district continue to improve their reading skills with the Lexia Program.  And again this year, every kindergarten student received a brand new book as a way to welcome them to our schools and encourage reading in the home.

All that we have accomplished has only inspired us to do more. During this past year members of the WCEF Board joined with members of the administration at WMHS to forge a partnership to develop a new program to benefit our schools:  a Woburn Hall of Fame for Achievement, Community Contributions and Athletics.

Woburn Memorial High School has a proud and distinguished tradition of educational excellence and athletic achievement.  This Hall of Fame has been established to recognize those individuals whose integrity, achievements, sportsmanship and character have enhanced the overall educational experience of our youth, and inspired pride in our community.

The Woburn Hall of Fame will honor contributions in sports, and will include categories for individual athletes, teams, coaches, and community members.  It will also honor distinguished alumni who have achieved remarkable success in industry or have made outstanding contributions to society.

In the fall of 2018, the Woburn Hall of Fame will open for nominations from our community. Details on the guidelines and the application process will be made public at that time.  The first slate of candidates to be inducted will be announced in the Spring of 2019, with formal ceremonies in June.

We look forward to bringing our community an event that will duly honor those who have sustained Woburn Memorial High School’s proud and distinguished tradition of educational excellence and athletic achievement as well as invest in the next generation of outstanding scholars and athletes.

WCEF Announces 2018 Educator Grant Awards

The Woburn Community Educational Foundation is pleased to announce our 2018 grant awards to support exciting new projects in the Woburn Public Schools.  Through the generosity of our community, $19,012 was granted to support 22 diverse classroom-based, whole-school and district-wide initiatives designed to engage students in interactive learning.  These funds will purchase innovative learning tools, provide professional development opportunities for teachers, deliver classroom technology enhancements and new educational enrichment programs, all to support the academic success of today’s students.

“We were truly impressed by the quality of the proposals we received this year,” comments WCEF Executive Director Maureen Willis, “These requests reflect the real needs of our schools and the commitment of our educators to provide high-quality and meaningful learning experiences for all our students.  We are proud to support their great ideas.”

Special thanks to Reading Cooperative Bank for providing sponsorship support for the Educator Grants Program for the second consecutive year.  We are also grateful for the increased investment by Winning Home Foundation in the potential of Woburn students; this partnership support will fund eight of the grants awarded this year.

WCEF is a nonprofit organization formed to increase private investment and community involvement in the Woburn Public Schools.  Grant funds support new projects that cannot be funded by the regular school budget. WCEF raises funds in the community through our spring Awesome Teacher Tribute and fall Women’s Forum event.  To help make a difference in our schools, contact WCEF at 781-281-9589 or email us at contactus@woburnedfoundation.org.

WCEF Receives Leadership Gift from Winning Home

The Woburn Community Educational Foundation (WCEF) is proud to announce the receipt of a $10,000 charitable grant from Winning Home, Inc., to fund Educator Grants which address the special educational needs of high-risk students in the Woburn Public Schools.  This generous grant from Winning Home, Inc. represents a 100% increase over previous awards, inspired by the success of projects funded by the local foundation over the last two years.

“Winning Home grants are making a dramatic and lasting impact on the learning experiences of our most challenged students”, comments WCEF’s Maureen Willis.  “We are so grateful for the continued support of Winning Home, as part of its mission to serve the needs of Woburn’s disadvantaged children and their families.”

This funding from Winning Home, Inc. will be made available to Woburn Educators as part of this year’s round of grant awards.  Woburn Educators are invited to submit proposals for grants now through January 22, 2018.
